A record number of teams attended the annual Bourne Town Juniors six-a-side tournament over the weekend.

The event attracted 125 sides to Milking Nook Drove for the two-day extravaganza with teams travelling from Grimsby, Lutterworth and Newark to compete.

Tournament co-ordinator Andy Hammond commented: "Despite a gloomy forecast of very heavy thundery showers for the second day, the weather turned out to be almost perfect for all concerned.

"It helped to contribute to some great football with some wonderful acts of sportsmanship on display.

"The Dakota also made a majestic triple fly-past on both days en-route to and from the Duxford Air Show.

"The committee receives marvellous feedback each year which we are extremely proud of, but we are also keen to point out that we are continually looking at ways to improve and ensure that no complacency creeps in. Plans for next year's event are already being discussed."

The younger age groups played out non-competitive matches while the older finals had the biggest variety of teams the tournament had ever seen with no single club dominating.
