It has been a busy long weekend of cricket action with the Rutland sides fighting it out in the Steaming Billy Rutland Twenty20 on Friday night.
It was a good night for Uppingham Town; the First XI beat Empingham and Uppingham Second XI beat Burghley Park to progress to the semi-finals.
The Firsts beat Empingham by seven wickets after Uppingham’s batsman chased down the 103 run target set by the village side who were bowled out in the 18th over.
Empingham made a strong start but spin bowler Ben Collins took some key wickets on his way to 4-30 from four overs and Scott Green was 2-15, and Stuart Lambie, 3-12.
It took Uppingham just 12 overs to reach the target with Jamie Dumford, Martin Bennett and Max Collins contributing runs before Mark Cox, 16 not out, and Harry Butchart, unbeaten on eight brought Uppingham home, finishing in style with a Butchart four.
It was a much closer affair in Uppingham’s other quarter-final where the Second XI snuck to a nine run win at home to Burghley Park.
Marker Overton play Oakham tonight (Monday) at 6pm for the final place in the next round.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday from 6pm.
Ketton face Uppingham Second XI and the winner of tonight’s game will face Uppingham First XI for a place in the final on July 4 at Oakham Cricket Club.
