Thurlby driver James Abbott, who set a record in Formula Ford last year as the only driver to score points in all 30 races, returns to battle this weekend.

The 20-year-old will be in action at Brands Hatch in Kent in the opening rounds of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.

Once again, Abbott will race for the family Radical Sportscars team, where he will enjoy the benefit of a team-mate for the first time in the shape of quick Argentinian racer Juan Rosso.

Twenty-year-old Rosso is basing himself in Peterborough for the coming season.

Abbott said: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to have Juan as a team-mate.

“I believe with our combined experience and level of feedback we can push each other forward and develop a strong car. We will be working closely together, assisting in the preparation of our cars and training hard.

“I hope that we can become close friends but formidable rivals at the same time. This I believe is essential to a pairing of this nature and will be a significant benefit to the end result.”

Radical Motorsport MD Phil Abbott said: “The whole synergy and feel of this team is great. Juan and James will be pushing each other hard on track.

“James has a lot of experience and an incredible understanding of car set-up for his age and his commitment in preparation and engineering knowledge will assist them both.”

Among Abbott’s rivals are race winners from 2013 Harrison Scott (Althorne) and Jayde Kruger (South Africa), as well as pre-season favourite Sam Brabham (Banbury).
