The first fighter wholly-trained at the Catmose College kickboxing classes in Oakham will be stepping into the ring next month.

Ross Thompson will be making his kickboxing debut at Midland Mayham 5 at Matlock on April 19.

Ross will be the first Rutlander to go forth and
fight full contact over three rounds.

He has been training for nearly two years and said: “I’ve always wanted to get in the ring, and am looking forward to fighting on the 19th.

“Training has been hard but enjoyable, but I can’t say the same for cutting weight.”

Instructor Danny Byrne said: “As well as fighting, full contact kickboxing is one of the best most enjoyable ways to get fit.

“I teach a range of students from private lessons to an ex F1 driver to a 68-year-old English rose of a lady, and my adult classes have a large demographic from physiotherapist, teachers, mums and twice weekly children classes where we encourage and train the parents to train the children themselves.”

From Wednesday Byrne will be running a free eight week beginner course, open to all. Anyone interested in joining should call 07880 987638 0r email to book a place.
