Newly-formed Oakham Hookers fished their first club match of the 2014 season at Lakeview Lakes near Melton Mowbray.
Canal was the lake of choice and with weather conditions very favourable as the anglers dusted off the winter cobwebs.
The match proved to be very reasonable with all anglers catching a few fish. In first place was new member Paddy Morley who weighed in a very creditable 41lbs 6ozs from peg number four.
Second place went to Bob Burton from peg no 24 with 30lbs 05ozs and third place went to Paul Green on peg no 29 with 28lbs 12ozs.
Section winners were Paul Parsons and Graham Smith.
This week’s match was at the Decoy complex near Whittlesey.
Twenty anglers turned out to fish Willow Lake with all anglers catching a few fish. The pegs in the 20s proved to be where the majority of the action took place.
Out in first place on peg 25 was Chris Parsons who weighed in an excellent 86lbs 15ozs, caught mainly on the feeder with pellet.
The weight was all the more remarkable by the fact that after half the match had passed Chris only had 5lbs in his net, but a brilliant second half saw him catch 80lb to win.
Sitting next to the winner on peg 24 was Paddy Morley who was just one fish behind with a weight of 83lbs 10ozs.Third place went to John Newton on peg 22 who caught 67lbs 02ozs using pole fished pellet. The best weight away from the 20s was fourth placed Dave Thornton who weighed in 63lbs 11ozs .
The section winners were Dave Thornton, Paul Smith and Paul Parsons.
