Bourne Deeping Men’s 1sts went into their fixture against Ford on Saturday knowing nothing less than a win would do to keep their ever slimming chances of promotion alive.
Fortunately Dragons won 7-5 in a high-scoring match.
Stuart Biggs scored a hat-trick of goals for Dragons while Andy Williams and Tom Richardson both scored a brace.
After a rather poor warm up, the Dragons surprisingly hit the ground running at full speed in the match and they didn’t take long to achieve a rather easy 3-0 lead within the opening minutes of the game.
However, due to some poor marking, defensive errors, and some might argue the low setting afternoon sun, Ford managed to soon claw themselves back into the game.
By the time the half time whistle had sounded, the few spectators had witnessed a 35 minute, nine goal thriller with the Dragons ahead 5-4.
After some stern words from the vice captain Chris Clarkson on keeping attitudes positive, the Dragons set out to keep control of the game.
They succeeded in doing so and increased their lead to 6-4. As the game opened up, chances were wasted by both sides and a lucky deflection off the post left another simple tap in for a Ford player to close the gap once again to 6-5.
Although there was only one goal in it, Dragons looked comfortable in possession as the home side’s legs started to dwindle.
One last short corner, one more goal for Bourne Deeping and they were deserved winners.
