Blackstones had to show real character on Saturday when they put the midweek 9-0 defeat by Peterborough Sports behind them to beat Lutterworth Athletic 2-1 in the UCL Division One.
Adam Scotcher put Stones in front after six minutes when he ran through and slotted home, beating the well-rehearsed off-side trap when the home team’s right back failed to advance with his comrades.
Prior to the goal Scotcher had forced a good save from the home keeper who pushed the ball onto the crossbar.
Lutterworth began to see more of the ball and following a swift passing move were rewarded an equaliser after 36 minutes through Samuel Burton.
Stones always look dangerous going forward with new signing Scott Ginty commanding the middle of the park and regained the lead through Addie Staffieri after 42 minutes, the striker converting Adam Sparks’ through ball with a deft lob of the advancing keeper.
Lutterworth certainly started the second half with more determination and with 30 minutes remaining Stones were reduced to 10 men after Scotcher picked up two quick fire yellow cards.
The home team pressed on trying to benefit from the man advantage but Stones defended resolutely, even doggedly, and with Lee Crockett in outstanding form in the Blackstones goal they held on to secure all three points. Blackstones have a busy week, they host Thrapston Town on Saturday in the league before taking on Holbeach in the KO Cup.
