If Oakham United go on to win the PDFL Premier Division they could well have rivals Netherton United to thank.

Oakham are doing their part by continuing to win, and if they can win their remaining seven games no one will be able to catch them.

On Saturday they beat Leverington Sports 4-1 away at Church Road.

Ben Easson, Dan Jenkins, Lewis Leckie and Richard Nelson all scored in the victory which keeps Oakham at the top of the pile.

At the same time title rivals Coates Athletic and Stilton United were both dropping points.

Coates were beaten 2-1 at Pinchbeck United following goals from Adam James Abell and Mark Lovelace.

Athletic skipper Jake Pell scored for Coates.

Meanwhile at The Grange Netherton were scuppering Stilton’s challenge.

Stilton had games in hand on Oakham, and had they won them all could have mathematically have been in a position to snatch the title, perhaps on the last day of the season when they play Oakham. ]

But the 1-1 draw on Saturday means they now have just a single game in hand and are eight points behind the leaders.

Dwayne Rankin scored for Netherton and Christian Gordon got on the scoresheet for Stilton.

Netherton have now taken points off both Coates and Stilton since Christmas to give Oakham more breathing room.

Elsewhere away from the league challenge Uppingham Town lost 5-0 at home to Moulton Harrox.

Ian Bradbury and Billy King scored twice each and Bobby Patterson struck once.

Langtoft United beat Holbeach United Reserves 2-1.
