Stamford AFC manager Graham Drury said he was “pleased” with his side’s’ performance in their 3-0 defeat to League One Scunthorpe United on Friday night in their opening pre-season game.
Drury said: “To think that we put eight new faces out in the starting line-up and that we have only had four training sessions together before the match I thought it went well.
“I thought some of the lads looked composed on the ball, particularly in the second half, and on the negative side it showed a few lads up as well. But that’s what I wanted to see, how they reacted.”
Drury said he was not concerned about his side having little possession, and few chances, in their pre-season games, which was the case as expected on Friday against The Iron. He said: “We are doing lots of finishing in training and we will do more as the weeks go on so it doesn’t matter we are not getting a lot of chances in the games.
“It’s more important to get our fitness high and learn to play in a good shape.”
“Perhaps even by the end of pre-season we will have Stamford scoring some goals as well against these League teams.”
Stamford take on Grimsby Town in the quarter final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tonight (Wednesday) before facing Bourne Town at the Abbey Lawn on Monday and Northampton Town at home on Wednesday next week.
