Youre News: Scouts raise money for Bourne community
More than 30 young people, leaders and some parents took park in the first day of the groups annual Christmas bag pack at Sainsbury’s.
During the festive period around 60 youngsters and young people supported the bag packing.
As always half of the money collected will go to organisations working to support the local community.
The group also bag packed on Christmas Eve and will be able to donate more than £1,300 to local charities.
Recipients will include Sainsbury’s chosen Charity, St Barnabas Hospice Trust and Thorpe Hall where the donation will be in memory of Bourne Group chairman Chris Jackson who passed away recently and received superb care from staff at Thorpe Hall.
This means that over the last 11 years the group has been able to share well in excess of £12,000 with local and national causes working closely with Bourne Rotary Club and Bourne Round Table amongst other groups.
This is in addition to the £150 that has already gone to the three Foodbanks.
Ray Dennis, Assistant County Commissioner for Lincolnshire Scouts, said: “At a time when all too often we hear about anti-social behaviour amongst youngsters more than 70 young people are involved in Scouting in the town.
“The 1st Bourne Scouts have always tried to help others both locally and nationally and internationally.
“Turning out to help the group and others at Christmas is an example of that help. They are a credit to the town, the district and the county.”
The group would like to thank Nicky Richardson and Jenny Allan from Sainsbury’s for allowing the group to bag pack yet again.
The annual charity presentation will take place in February.
• The group would like to thank all the people who supported our efforts through the year and wish the community in Bourne a prosperous New Year.
• The group and District are always looking for more adult help whether in uniform or supporting fundraising and community work.
There are 11 groups within a ten-mile radius of Bourne and help would be welcome in any of them.
If you fancy a new challenge for the New Year please contact the District Commissioner Trevor Watson at firstname.lastname@example.org or the District chairman Greg Cejer at email@example.com.
