Bourne Abbey and Bourne Elsea Park Church of England Primary Academies are looking to host trainee teachers as part of a SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) course from September 2015.

If you have always wanted to be a teacher or fancy a change of career, training within a school will give you the best possible start to the job!

We have a number of experienced mentors who have worked with trainees for many years and are able to offer advice, help and support through your training year.

The SCITT route into teaching is a great way to get a balance of academic study and also have the practical hands on experience in the classroom.

Mr. Thomas, who is now a year 6 teacher at Bourne Abbey, trained last year on the SCITT route and highly recommends this route into teaching:

“I feel that the School Centred Initial Teacher Training route provided me with invaluable training for entering the world of teaching and has been a wonderful journey from day one.

“Being based at Bourne Abbey Church of England Primary Academy meant that I was immersed in a real teaching environment from the outset and the work I was able to do with the children and staff was fantastic preparation for the realities of life in the classroom.

This outstanding school offered me a brilliant mentor who was able to pass on a wealth of knowledge and guide me throughout the training process; the hands on experience teamed with a great support network have proved invaluable.”

To be eligible to enter this training programme you need a minimum of a grade C in GCSE English, mathematics and science. You also need a degree of a 2:2 or above (a third class degree may be accepted, depending on the circumstances). Your degree can be in any subject and doesn’t need to necessarily relate to the National Curriculum.

We are pleased to be working in partnership with Educate Teacher Training to offer these training experiences within the school; they have been delivering Initial Teacher Training for over twelve years and are based in Grantham (see www.educateteachertraining.co.uk for further information).

If you would like to find out more about the course and to investigate the possibility of starting your teacher training this year or next year, come along to an open afternoon on Saturday the 18th April (2-4pm) at Bourne Elsea Park Church of England Primary Academy. Staff from Bourne Abbey and Educate Teacher Training will be on hand to offer you support and advice about entering the teaching profession.

There will also be representatives from local secondary schools who are also looking to host trainees, this year and in the future. Please contact Charlotte Smith on charlotte@elitetsa.co.uk for further information.
