Local housebuilder Larkfleet Homes is helping Bourne residents foster their very own community at The Croft, an over 55s lifestyle living development.

Dennis and Phyllis Pinnock – new residents of Bourne (and The Croft) – found that Bourne offered them much stronger community support compared to where they had previously lived in Cambridgeshire.

Dennis, who works part-time as an administrative assistant, said: “We were feeling quite isolated, as the area we were living in had changed a lot since we moved there 20 years ago and it had lost its sense of community spirit.

“For us this move has not only given us a lovely new home but has given us the chance to live somewhere that suits our lifestyle.

“There is a really good mix of people here and everyone we have met so far has been really friendly and will stop and say hello.”

The Croft consists of 69 properties, including one and two-bedroom bungalows and two and three-bedroom chalets arranged around attractively landscaped courtyards.

The development is built in the grounds of a former manor house which has been fully restored and is now the hub of the development.

The manor house provides a community facility for residents where they can relax or take part in the events and activities which are held there.

Last year residents invited the local community to join them for two antiques roadshow events, where specialist valuation teams from Bateman’s Auctioneers of Stamford offered free-of-charge valuations and advice.

There was also a jazz event and a strawberries and cream afternoon to celebrate British success at Wimbledon.

Perhaps most exciting, however, was a special guest appearance by music legend Kiki Dee who has had enormous success in the music and musical theatre industries. Kiki sang and took part in a Q&A session during the special event at the development which was enjoyed by a variety of Bourne residents.

Residents at The Croft have several community events planned throughout 2014, including a luxury clothes sale and a Royal British Legion tea and cake sale in April. Both events are open to members of the public and are free to attend.
