Your news: Bourne Abbey teams play well in tournament
Two teams from Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy recently took part in a football tournament held at The Gleed School in Spalding.
Both teams were fantastic! They played their hearts out every game! Working as a team and supporting each other through every match and challenge they faced. The group were role models for the school as they conducted themselves brilliantly throughout the competition.
Bourne Abbey A Team
The team played brilliantly and won all of their five games in the opening stages of the competitions, only conceding one goal. This meant that they went through to the knock-out stage of the competition. The next match was a hard fought quarter-final with both teams drawing even at the end of extra time. This meant the dreaded penalties! After four penalties the score was still level until George made an important save and we went on to score the next penalty and go through to the semi-finals. The semi-final match was against Monkshouse Primary School, which the team had already beaten in the first round. Again the match was closely fought and went to extra time, with a golden goal placing Bourne Abbey in third.
This was a fantastic achievement and they went home with their heads held high and a third place medal around their neck.
Bourne Abbey B Team
The B team were placed in a very difficult league with three A teams from other schools. They won one, drew one and lost two in some very tight games in their league. They all demonstrated a fantastic team ethic, encouragement and support throughout the day was shown from all members of the team.
Mrs Cherry Edwards said: “Congratulations to both teams, we are very proud of all our young sports people. Thanks must also go to all those involved in organising and supporting such fantastic sporting opportunities for them.”
