1st Thurlby (St Firmin) Scout Group have arranged for 43 of our Cubs and Scouts to experience an overseas adventure.

In August 2014 we will be heading to Ardres, France to explore the French culture, meet French Scouts and to also enjoy activities that our Scouts may not be able to do in the UK.

The trip is costing over £13,000 and parents have already paid their deposits with the balance being raised by various fundraising activities. To date, we have bag packed at both Tesco, Market Deeping and Sainsbury, Bourne, running an online raffle (via Facebook), held a second hand fayre and also a family night and currently we have raised approximately £2,000 and are on target to pay the next instalment this month. However, we still have a long way to go and are currently planning the events for 2014.

We will be holding a race night at the end of January and the children are organising a Valentine’s art festival for February. The online raffle will continue throughout the year, or for as long as people keep donating prizes.

I will also be contacting Morrison’s, Stamford to request a bag pack.

I would like to appeal to local businesses to sponsor myself for an abseil in the spring. As people can appreciate organising an event such as this is no mean feat and I am confident that this event will raise a substantial amount. As a unit, we are prepare to offer a percentage of funds raised for the abseil to be donated to a charity of choice by the company who has made the sponsor. Some people would think that his is easy enough to achieve but I have a very big fear of heights but am determined to conquer it by raising funds for our group.

If anyone would like to make a donation or offer a prize for the online raffle, please contact myself, Steina Bishop, via e-mail or by calling 07801 981842.
