Woman, 70, rescued from roof of Burghley House

A 70-year-old woman had to rescued from the roof of Burghley House near Stamford.

Firefighters were called to the scene at about 6pm yesterday (Tuesday).

The woman was brought down and taken to Peterborough City Hospital to be treated for an injury to her hip.

She was part of a history society which was enjoying a rare private tour of the roof of the 16th century country house.

House manager Philip Gompertz said: “The lady remained in cheerful spirits throughout and we hope that she will soon make a full recovery.”
