Police and the ambulance service were called to South Street, Bourne, just before 2am on Saturday morning after an altercation near the Masons Arms pub.

During the incident two local men, aged 23 and 25, were assaulted and later taken to Peterborough City Hospital for treatment.

Police were unable to say on Thursday whether the two men were still in hospital.

The area where the incident took place was examined by a crime scene investigator on Sunday and a 16-year-old local youth was arrested.

He has since been released under investigation.

Police enquiries are continuing and officers say they have a number of witnesses to interview.

Anyone with any information should contact 101 in confidence, quoting incident number 32 of May 26.
