The two 11-year-old girls who were hit by a people carrier in Northorpe are now in a stable condition in hospital.

The Bourne Academy pupils were crossing the A15 after getting off a bus when they were hit by a Renault Trafic at about 3.50pm on Tuesday last week.

They were both taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries and were in a critical condition for several days afterwards.

But police today (Friday) confirmed both girls were now stable.

A petition calling for pedestrian crossings in Northorpe and Thurlby has attracted more than 3,000 signatures in just over a week.
