Support is growing for a mother-of-two from Bourne in raising £10,000 for cancer treatment which could prolong her life.

Heidi Rock (35) has already raised £4,000 towards an anti-cancer programme, involving natural therapies, pioneered by medical staff at The Budwig Centre in Spain.

On days when you really get down, it’s the messages from strangers that make you carry on

A car boot sale at Bourne Rugby Club two weeks ago raised almost £500 and a Fight Like A Girl day at the same club last month raised about £1,500.

Heidi said: “The car boot sale was absolutely fantastic and the Fight Like A Girl day in March was an amazing event.

“All the ladies at Bourne Rugby Club worked so hard and they are like a family to me now.”

Heidi, who was given just a few years to live when she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in January, is starting the Cancer Research Race for Life day at Burghley House, near Stamford, on Sunday.

“I was asked to start the Race for Life because there will be a big team of 126 runners who will be wearing Team Heidi t-shirts, Heidi said.

“But I’ll also try and walk the 5k distance with the help of people’s positivity to keep me well and sustain me.

“The amount of support from people who are behind me has been absolutely stunning and we, as a family, are both extremely grateful and truly awestruck by the response from local people and businesses,” Heidi said.

There will be three fundraising events for Heidi this month, starting with a charity zumba at The Burghley Club, Peterborough, on Saturday, June 11, from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

Then there is a make-up masterclass at Bo-Jangles Hair and Beauty Studio, Crown Walk, Bourne, on Monday, June 20, between 6pm and 8pm.

Finally, a quiz night is being held at Bourne Town Football Club, Abbey Road, Bourne, on Saturday, June 25 at 7pm.

Heidi said: “My husband and children have an idea of our future together and I’m not ready to give up on that.

“Both of my daughters are approaching a crucial stage in their lives and I want to be there for them.

“But on days when you really get down, it’s the messages from strangers that make you carry on and the kindness of people who give donations anonymously, putting so much effort and so much of themselves into helping us out.”

“We’re just a normal family trying to get through things, but the support from people is making a difference.”
