Police have confirmed that an air rifle was used in the shooting of two Morton cats.

Emma Goldsmith's 11-month-old cat Dusky was shot in her front right leg on May 7, while Shannon Hasbury's cat Smokey was left blind in one eye after being shot on April 28.

Community policing inspector Ian Martin said the weapon used in the shootings was an air rifle.

He said police were still investigating both matters and no arrests had been made.

"At present, despite speaking to local residents and checking for local CCTV and witnesses, there are no further lines of enquiry that are available to identify a suspect," he said.

"The local neighbourhood policing team have been spending time in the area to re-assure local residents and to alleviate concerns, but unless any further information comes to light then the cases will be closed.

"If any information comes to light in the future they can of course be re-opened."
