Andrew Hyland at a previous beer festival
Gail Hyland and husband Andrew are the main organisers and are due to stand down after this year’s event, which runs from Friday, September 2, until Sunday, September 4.
Over the last few years, the numbers on the committee have dwindled and Gail and Andrew, who have been involved for six and eight years respectively, feel they can no longer take charge.
They’ve asked around the village but so far no-one has stepped up to take on the mantle so they’re preparing to go out with a bang.
Gail said: “It’s very much a community event, it’s very well supported and we know it will be again this year. It’s going to be amazing, we’ve got some really great bands lined up.”
As well as the beer festival, there is also live music with Holly and the Boat Men topping the bill on Friday and Lincoln-based band Stark, who went down a storm at last year’s event, headlining on Saturday.
There’s also children’s entertainment and a car boot running in tandem on the Sunday.
This year will be the event’s 16th and it raises money for good causes and has in the past helped the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and Lives First Responders.
The beer festival also helps good causes closer to home and last year helped fund the village’s defibrillator casing so it could be put up.
Gail said: “Although it’s hard work, it’s very rewarding to raise so much for charity. I think we’ve raised about £15,000 over the years.”
Gail hopes a bigger committee will come forward to take on the event.
She said: “It’s very time consuming when there’s so few of you but we think we have done our stint and it is time to step back. It will be very sad if this year is the last event but I can’t see that anyone in the village is willing to take it on.”
On Bank Holiday Monday, August 29, the stalwart team of volunteers will be at Rippingale Playing Fields erecting marquees from 10am and anyone who wants to lend a hand will be rewarded with bacon butties and cups of tea.
The festival has also lost a lot of beer barrel sponsors recently and Gail appealed for anyone who wanted to sponsor a barrel for £50 - either a business or an individual as a gift with a photo placed on the barrel - to come forward.
