Drivers will be able to pay parking charges by phone in Stamford.

South Kesteven District Council is introducing cashless parking in its six car parks in the town on July 1. The scheme will also be brought implemented in Grantham.

Portfolio holder for well run council Mike Taylor (Con) said the current system caused frustration as machines were not able to give change. He added: “The new cashless system means charges are only made for the time actually used and another great advantage is that if the driver’s visit to town takes longer than was originally envisaged there is no need to go back and feed the meter – you can just extend your stay on the phone.”

Drivers can pay for parking by text message or on a downloadable app.
