Margaret Croft, resident of The Maltings, Barnack, for half a century, died at Peterborough City Hospital aged 86, following several years of declining health.
One of 10 children, she was the daughter of Bernard and Beryle Hodges of Kettering. Margaret leaves her husband of 62 years Harold, sons Paul and Philip, and grandchildren Georgina, Rosannah, Edmund, Samuel, Benjamin and John.
Margaret arrived in Barnack as a teenage Land Army girl towards the end of the second World War, and married Harold Croft in 1951.
She worked in a variety of jobs locally, before, during and after raising two children.
In the early years after the war she worked at Burghley gardens, developing her green fingers, and maintained a lifelong love of flowering plants.
She will be remembered by many in her later jobs delivering the post, and as a dinner lady at Barnack School.
Margaret loved children and working at the school made her very happy. But it was not only the young that she cared about.
She was a strong supporter of the Darby and Joan Club, which she felt to be an important asset to the senior people of the village.
She was much loved by her family and affectionately regarded by many.
The funeral service was held at St John the Baptist Church, Barnack, the Rev David Maylor officiated and organist was Elizabeth Snowball. Members of the church choir were in attendance and the bell was tolled by Ian Burrows. Cremation at Marholm followed.
Donations totalling £525 were given to the Patient Participation Group of St Mary’s Medical Centre, Stamford.
