A building housing a pub in Pointon was severely damaged by fire yesterday (Monday).

Six fire crews were called to the Old Ship Inn pub in High Street Pointon at about 2.45pm.

Crews from Bourne, Billingborough and Donington, along with an aerial platform ladder, fought the fire for most of the afternoon.

Crew members used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, a 9m ladder, an extension ladder and a roof ladder to tackle the first-floor fire.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the pub was successfully evacuated and that no one was harmed in the fire. However there is severe fire and smoke damage to the living space. The extent of the damage to the ground floor where the pub is located is in currently unknown.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the cause of the fire has not been determined yet.

The fire officer has been unable to carry out any investigation yet due to the structure of the building being unsafe at the moment.

The incident led to the road being closed.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said the fire at this point did not appear to be suspicious, that it may have been caused by an electrical fault.
