Three teams of players from Year 6 took part in a hockey tournament at The Deepings School on Tuesday 4th February.

The children have been playing lots of hockey in their PE lessons to develop their individual skills and team work and all were excited about going to represent the school.

At primary school the children play Quicksticks hockey. This is an adapted version of the regular game. The children are in squads of 6 and play 4-a-side games. This makes the game fast and gives the children lots of opportunity to be involved in the games.

There were a huge number of teams entered in the tournament this year from across Bourne and Deeping and the children had to play in four separate leagues.

We were very pleased that our B team finished second in their league and our C team finished first in their league and then went on to finish in third place overall out of a total of 16 teams.

All the children played some fantastic games of hockey and displayed excellent hockey skills and sportsmanship. Well done to all!

Congratulations to the A team from Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy who were crowned champions at the district netball tournament on Thursday 13th February. The tournament was held at Spalding High School and involved 18 teams from schools from across Bourne, Deeping and Spalding. The children played games of High Five Netball.

This is an adapted version of the official game and a fantastic introduction to the sport. The B team also played very well, narrowly missing the semi finals by just one goal and achieved a fabulous 8th place overall.

The A team now go on to represent our district at the County Netball Tournament on Wednesday 5th March at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre.

Mrs Goold, Class Teacher, commented, “The children had a fantastic day and were a credit to the school and their parents. The weather was extremely kind to us and to achieve such great results was the icing on the cake.”

Mrs Edwards, Headteacher, added: “Congratulations to both teams – we are very proud of their achievements.

“Our young sports men and women are always excited to represent Bourne Abbey at such events and thanks must go to the organisers and our staff who provide such fantastic opportunities for them.”
