Teenager pleads not guilty to murdering baby

A 17-year-old girl will face trial accused of murdering a newborn baby.

The girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and perverting the course of justice at Nottingham Crown Court today (Tuesday).

The defendant was arrested after police were called to a house in a village near Bourne shortly before 2am on September 5 last year. Officers discovered the body of a newborn baby.

A post mortem examination revealed the baby died from obstruction of the airways.

The girl has been remanded in care and is banned from having any unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 13 or with her mother and stepfather, as both are witnesses in the case,

She has also been put under an electronically-monitored curfew between 7pm and 8am and ordered not to visit certain areas.

She is expected to live with a foster carer until her next crown court appearance, scheduled for July 14.
