Volunteers are being sought to help with a pamper project that makes a big difference to elderly people.

Evergreen Care Trust launched its hand and nail care project, thanks to the support and sponsorship of staff and students at New College Stamford.

It currently sees residents at Whitefriars Care Home in Stamford benefiting from a weekly, free of charge, hand and nail care pamper session, including a hand massage, cuticle care and painted nails.

Level 2 beauty students at the college have been helping with the project but all Evergreen staff and volunteers are trained to deliver the service.

Now, thanks to its popularity at Whitefriars, staff at the John Van Geest unit at Stamford Hospital have said they would like to have this service for its patients.

In addition Evergreen will also be extending the service to Essex Road, Hilary Close and Emlyns Gardens, where Evergreen currently organise friendship lunches.

Evergreen’s volunteer and marketing coordinator Rosie Maclennan said: “This project is a wonderful volunteer role and due to its popularity and increase in need we are currently looking to recruit more volunteers.

“We provide everything needed and excellent training in hand and nail care.”

Whitefriars’ activities co-ordinator Sue Mottram said: “This is a wonderful project that gives our residents the opportunity to have a one to one pamper session that provides a luxurious treat and chance for a chat and some fun.”

As well as its hand and nail care project, Evergreen also provide advocacy, a befriending service, a clean team, soup delivery, hospital to home service, home support and well-being visits.

Evergreen is based in Stamford but provides these services for people in the Deepings and Bourne too.
