Deepings Library has appointed a new co-ordinator.
Louisa Crowson has taken the position, which is jointly funded by Friends of Deepings Library, Deeping Community Trust, Lincolnshire Libraries, Market Deeping Town Council and Deeping St James Parish Council.
She will start her formal contract on January 25 but will join in the preparations and activities as much as she can before that.
Louisa said: “I’ve always wanted to work in a library from being a child. You know when you are asked ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ I would always want to be a librarian, so becoming a library coordinator for my local library is like a dream come true.
“My current role as an cctivities co-ordinator in a local care home has given me great ideas and experience of working with volunteers in the communityand I am so excited to bring my enthusiasm, ideas and dedication to our library.”
The library will be run by the Friends group after Lincolnshire County Council withdrew its funding. But the group is keen to make the library a much bigger part of the Deepings community.
Louisa said: “Obviously the library is already in the heart of the community and that’s why it’s so important to get it up and running again. But, and this is a big but, we need to evolve with the times and realise that in this current day of ‘swipe screen’ instead of ‘turn page’ people need reintroducing to the beauty and simplicity of books.
“Of course, our new library won’t just be about books, it will house technology for use by the whole community, activities to entertain the little ones, homework clubs for the not so little ones and a plethora of opportunities for the older ones.
“I will be working closely with the Friends of Deeping Library and with the able assistance from a group of lovely volunteers we will steer the Deepings library onto a voyage of discovery. I can’t wait to get started.”
