A council has corrected a map of town retailers after it twice missed out key business locations, including its own flagship development.

South Kesteven District Council released a Shop Local map of Bourne last week.

The leaflet features a list all of the town’s 130-plus retailers, plus a map of the town.

But the first version, distributed around the town, did not include Wherry’s Lane on the map itself. This meant the council’s own £2.14m Wherry’s Mill redevelopment and other firms in the street were nowhere to be found.

After traders in Wherry’s Lane pointed out the problem the map was redrawn and published online. But the new version did not include Crown Walk or Angel Precinct on the map, despite business in those areas being listed on the back.

A third version has now been released with all three missing areas included. The council’s service manager for economic development and investment David Mather said: “We thank retailers for continuing to work with us to ensure the map is as accurate as possible and the online version now features Crown Walk and Angel Precinct.

“We work in partnership with Bourne Business Chamber and Bourne Town Council to continually revise the maps and make amendments when required. Future printed versions will feature these retail areas.”

Margaret Stevenson is co-owner of Bourne Interior Furnishings in Wherry’s Lane. She said: “My biggest problem was that they spent all this money printing all these maps.

“Businesses are expected to pick them up and hand them out to customers but if they can’t find us it seems like a waste if money.”

Stephanie Romaine owns Stephanie’s florist in Crown Walk. She said: “If anyone wanted to find us it’s not going to happen.”
