More than £1,000 has been raised by The Sugar Mill pub in Bourne, as part of a fundraising drive for Asthma UK.

A total of more than £900 was raised alone at the 40s Family Fun Day held at the weekend, of which has been added to the amount raised in sponsorship by pub manager, Tom Ellis who took on the ultimate challenge whilst everyone else was having a jolly good time.

Hundreds of people joined in the fun at the 40s event held on Saturday, which featured live music from singer Nicky Downs and entertainment from The Homefront 40s dancers.

Staff also got into the spirit and donned their 40s attire, complete with floral prints and victory rolls.

The children were fully entertained for the day, with plenty of fun and games and received a very special visit from Frozen’s Elsa, who put a big smile on everyone’s faces.

Unfortunately not everyone could join in the fun on Saturday, pub manager Tom opted for a less ‘relaxing’ weekend and instead chose to take on the Man vs Mountain challenge, a gruelling 24 and a 1/2 mile climb from Caernarfon to the top of Snowden, then back down to Llanberis.

Tom said: “There is nothing in the world that can prepare you for such a challenge as that. It was so tough, I was in so much pain. As I got to the end I was nearly in tears, my body had completely given up - but somehow I kept going.”

Joined by his dad and his brother, Tom managed to complete the challenge in just over five hours, coming 47th out of 1,200 competitors.

Tom has so far raised a total of more than £600 for Asthma UK, which will be added to the total raised from the Family Fun Day.

He added: “I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve already signed up to do it again next year. I must be mad.”
