Baston-based creative agency Cocktail Marketing has won a top award at a Westminster awards ceremony.
Cheryl Graves and Amanda Goodbun started the business just 18-months ago when they were made redundant from the Norwich & Peterborough Building Society, following the Yorkshire Building Society takeover.
Seeing redundancy as an opportunity to take on a new challenge and with over 30 years combined experience in marketing and design the pair decided it was the right time to start their own venture.
They signed up to the Government’s New Enterprise scheme run by Ixion – a subsidiary of Anglia Ruskin University - which gives support to people wanting to start their own business.
Cheryl said: “The scheme offered training and mentoring to help our company take hold and grow, it was just what we needed in the first few weeks of starting Cocktail Marketing.
“Ixion got back in touch about a month ago with details of their enterprise awards open to every business they had supported across East Anglia and London over the past 12 months and I thought what have we got to lose?”
Of the six awards categories, Cocktail Marketing was nominated for both Innovation of the Year and Service Enterprise of the Year.
The awards ceremony took place at Central Hall in Westminster with the Minister State of Employment Rt Hon. Esther McVey on hand to present the awards.
On being crowned Service Enterprise of the year Cocktail Marketing were praised for their straight-forward and non jargon approach to helping local businesses and charities grow with their creative marketing support.
Amanda said: “We’re over the moon to win and receive recognition for all of the hard work that has gone into establishing our business, we love what we do and it’s given us enormous drive to keep going and keep growing.”
She said the award comes at a time when the Government have announced plans to put creative industries at the heart of economic growth with the aim to maintain and boost Britain’s position as a creative world leader in areas from gaming to advertising, design and publishing.
