The final hundred yards of this year’s Thorpe Hall Starlight Hike is set to provide a beautiful display of memories thanks to hundreds of decorated candle bags.
The Avenue of Light will lead walkers towards the finishing line in the shadow of the stunning mansion house, in Longthorpe, Peterborough.
Every Starlight Hiker will be invited to decorate a candle bag in memory of someone special. Lit tealights inside the bags provide a stunning display through cut out patterns. And supporters will be invited to buy a bag to decorate while their family and friends are walking, adding to the avenue which will greet walkers on their return.
This year’s Starlight Hike, taking place on Saturday, August 8, starts and finishes at Thorpe Hall Hospice and offers two, fully-marshaled routes – a challenging 10km and a family-friendly 5km. Doors open at 6pm with walkers setting off at 8pm.
All money raised at the event will go towards providing incredible care in Thorpe Hall’s new hospice building, which welcomed its first patients earlier in July.
Senior events fundraiser Jo Killick said: “This year’s Starlight Hike is much more than just a walk – we have entertainment for all the family before and after the walk – and during for supporters. There will be bands, music, a warm up, a barbecue and even Starlight Cocktails.
“The Avenue of Light will be the perfect greeting for our walkers as they arrive back at Thorpe Hall.”
The event is open to all ages including children. It costs just £15 to enter with all entrants receiving a must-have Starlight Hike T-shirt to wear during the event. Walkers are asked to raise £100 through sponsorship. To find out more about this year’s Starlight Hike visit www.sueryder.org/starlighthike/thorpehall or call the fundraising team on 01733 225993.
