A car auction house could be knocked down to make way for 34 new homes according to a newly-submitted planning application.

Westleigh Homes has applied to South Kesteven District Council to develop the County Car Auctions site in Eastgate, Bourne.

The firm wants to demolish the existing warehouse and build 34 two-storey homes, with a mix of flats and houses. County Car Auctions is currently open for business, but the owners are considering their options for the future.

According to the planning application, new homes would not have any adverse effect on existing residents nearby.

It states: “ It is important to assess the effect that any development proposal will have on people in the locality and the formulation of the scheme has considered carefully the need to ensure that there is no adverse effect in terms of residential amenity or the character and appearance of the area.

“The layout formulated demonstrates that the occupiers of the adjoining properties on Cherry Holt Road and Eastgate would not be adversely affected in terms of overlooking, loss of light or by the creation of any overbearing effect.”

The application adds: “In terms of the effect of the development on the character and appearance of the area, the site is urban in appearance, however the new residential development proposed would provide an improvement to the street scene following the removal of the existing building.”
