With airplay on Radio 1 and one of their biggest tours to date, 2015 is proving to be a big year for Stamford’s White Clouds and Gunfire.

The pop punks will finish a run of six dates supporting In Hindsight with a homecoming headline show at the Voodoo Lounge in Stamford tonight.

The five-piece have enjoyed a busy year of playing and writing so far. One of the highlights came in January when they were played on BBC Radio 1 by DJ Huw Stephens.

They are now looking forward to playing for a familiar crowd, followed by a busy summer writing new material.

Singer Evey Verdegaal is excited to return to a Stamford stage. She said: “It’s nice to do a show in your home town. It’s always good to say ‘hello, we’re home!’.”

The current tour has given White Clouds and Gunfire the chance to play in front of bigger crowds than usual. The experience has been a little different than what they are used to.

“We usually do the merch ourselves and we go out into the crowd before and after the show,” said Evey. “But we’re not allowed to do that.

“But we have been flyering the queues and going out after the gig has finished. We’re still able to meet people.”

Their connection with fans, many of whom are teenagers, is key for White Clouds and Gunfire. The band won the Mercury’s Road to Riverside competition in 2009 thanks to a public vote.

Evey said: “It’s a massive plus point for us. Even when I send gig tickets out I always put a little note in there. I never want us to lose that.

“We have met so many awesome people. It means to much more to fans when they see we actually care.

“My favourite thing about being on tour is getting to meet different people. It always means more when we go back to these places and see people we know.”

Doors for tonight’s gig open at 8pm, with support from Stringfinger. Tickets are £6 from wcaguk.bigcartel.com.
