For those who enjoy going out and about dining locally, the options have certainly improved in the Peterborough area in 2015.

The year started with Bill’s joining another “new kid on the block” Argo Lounge in the increasingly popular Cathedral Square food quarter in the city centre.

Look out in 2016 for some big names joining them - Japanese chain Wagamama is lining up a venue in Long Causeway and French bistro Cote is in negotiations to take on a vacant bank premises in Church Street.

Spring saw the excellent and hugely popular Handmade Burger Company breathe new life in to the Old Still pub in Westgate Arcade, and in the summer Efes brought the city its first proper taste of Turkish cuisine with a restaurant on Lincoln Road, New England. More recently Turkish Kitchen has added to what is on offer with a stylish new restaurant on New Road, and sandwiched inbetween came Zada - a second Turkish restaurant for Stamford - on St Mary’s Hill.

There has been some movement in the market town too, with Barn 02 replacing Morello’s and Il Vicolo taking over the Cheyne Lane Bistro site.

Autumn saw the former Emperor restaurant on Lincoln Road become the Lebanese Emperor, and this month has seen the spectacular Ba Shoh a-la-carte Indian restaurant open in the wonderfully refurbished former Imperial Bento premises in Broadway, Peterborough city centre, and Sabor Brasil - a Brazilian rodizio restaurant - opening just across the road in the former Monroes venue.

Looking ahead once more, Tamu will be looking to add to the dessert lounge scene with a second, larger restaurant in Cowgate, and a classy Creams dessert Lounge is expected to open in Lincoln Road.

Highlights of the Eating Out year include some old favourites - The Blue Bell at Glinton (January), The Falcon Inn at Fotheringhay ( February), The William Cecil, Stamford, (April), Paper Mills at Wansford (June), The Beehive, Peterborough (July), The Red Lion at West Deeping and No3 The Yard at Stamford (March).

Also making an impression was the Tap and Kitchen at Oundle (June), Sweet Olives on London Road (September), Thai on the Square at the Stone Loach in Market Deeping (August), The Crown at Stamford(May), and Gurka 91 at Deeping St James (August)
