SWIMMING: Marcus leads the way on day of great times
DEEPINGS Swimming Club's members clocked ten Midland Qualifying Times (MQTs) and 41 personal best times (PBs) at Biggleswade.
The club boasted 13 age group winners, six second place awards and two third place finishes.
Marcus Cook was on top form when he won seven of his eight events, coming second in the other.
He produced some wonderful PBs and gained six MQTs in the process.
Other age group and award winners for the club were: Chris Barrett (200m IM, 200m butterfly); Tom Lane (200m backstroke); Lauren Wray (400m IM); Tom Ballaam (100m backstroke); Emma Catterall (100m butterfly).
Eleven-year-olds Alex Wray and Olivia Conway also swam particularly well, while Elisha Penman produced a 100m PB in her 200m backstroke, going faster than in her individual event.
A small team of Deeping swimmers participated in the Thetfords Open Meet.
This is an excellent meet for new swimmers who are learning to compete and to update times.
Although it was a relatively small team, they managed to bring home 32 trophies and achieved 25 PBs.
Nine year old Jordan Bull was outstanding, winning five events (100m IM, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke).
Oliver Perkins also won his event in the 100m backstroke and picked up awards in three other events.
Other trophy winners: Dom Gray, Elliot Bull, Jack Ross, Elisha Penman, Samara McKnight, Zoe Fisher and Emma Catterall.
Georgia Gray and Hannah Catterall competed well in their first ever open meet, while Jack Ross – swimming in his first open meet for Deeping since joining from Boston – did well and was among the trophy winners.
