Superb Richardson takes seven wickets

BASTON moved up to fourth in the South Lincolnshire and Border League Division Three on the back of an excellent win against Burgh and District.

Burgh won the toss and put Baston into bat in wet and windy conditions.

But the rain soon cleared and the game began with some tidy overs from the Burgh attack.

Lloyd Stewart was the first man out, trapped in front for just 5. His fellow opener Ant Morris looked in good form as he scored 23 including four boundaries but was bowled by Burgh's captain Pearce.

With John Lamin (2), Steve Richardson (0) and Joe Reeves (4) all out cheaply, new acquisition Chris Bower stepped up to the crease and batted responsibly for 15 before missing a straight ball and being bowled by Scott Underwood.

Baston were struggling at 68-6 but Doug Russell and Ben Hudson built a steady partnership to push Baston over the 100 mark before Russell (19) was bowled by Richard Underwood.

He then claimed Baston captain Tim Dyer (0) as well as Adam Hilless (5) and Scott Downie for a duck to finish on (4-24) and leave Hudson stranded on 23 not out.

Baston had posted a defendable 120 off 39.1 overs but Burgh had been on a good run and were looking good until a controversial run-out saw off opener Scott Underwood (6).

Burgh skipper Ben Pearce (31) continued to find runs as the top order collapsed around him and eventually he was bowled by the ball of the day from Steve Richardson for 31, leaving Burgh on 47-4.

The middle order didn't put up much resistance as Richardson ripped through them on his way to an impressive 7 for 19 off 11.3 overs.

Burgh finished on 63 all out as Baston won by 57 runs.

Baston host second-placed Long Sutton 2nds, who have won eight from 13 this summer, at home on Saturday.
