Striker Orrey signs for Wakes

THE Wakes will have a new hit-man up front when league action resumes after the big freeze.

Bourne boss Martyn Lakin has signed former Holbeach Utd striker Lee Orrey and says he will make his Wakes debut against Rothwell Corinthinans at home on Saturday if the game is not postponed because of the poor weather.

Lakin said: "He's a tough, experienced striker but hadn't played for a year.

"Rob Speechley (Lakin's assistant at the Abbey Lawn) spoke to him and he seemed keen to join.

"He'll bring a buzz to the changing room. We need someone like him who has not been involved in the poor run of results before Christmas."

Orrey is not the only acquisition Lakin hopes to make. The Bourne manager has his eyes on Boston Town centre-half Simon Ashton, who he would like to bring to the Abbey Lawn on loan.

Lakin said: "Ashton is a fantatsic prospect. He seems keen to come and knows one or two of the lads here.

"He had been 15th or 16th man at Boston. But since Nick Jackson left Boston they may want to keep him."
