Runners take on ultimate challenge at Grimsthorpe
THE Grimsthorpe Ultra 70, a non-stop 70 mile race, took place on Friday and Saturday in the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle.
Almost 30 runners completed seven laps of a 10 mile circuit with a mixture of novices and experienced ultra-runners at the start line including one, Tim Butler who was aiming to juggle the entire course.
A good pace was set by the front runners and after 20 or so miles the field was well spread out. As night arrived the two clear leaders were Ian Foreman and Christian Anderson and they ran to the finish together with a time of 11 hours 52 minutes to take joint first place.
Race organiser Keith Gray said: "Tim Butler was amazing throughout the race and ran the full 70 miles while juggling and finished in a time of 20 hours 28 minutes.
"This event was a training run for Tim who is aiming to break the world record for juggling which is 101 miles this autumn."
This was the first ultra race Gray has organised under the Fat Feet banner and he was delighted with feedback from the runners. For more Fat Feet events see www.fat-feet.co.uk.
