Oakham Colts qualified for their fourth successive county cup final by beating Leicester Forest in this year’s semi-final.

In a tough encounter, the home side had to dig deep to see off the persistent challenge of the visitors to the Showground in a 29-5 win.

The Oakham outfit got off to a flying start when flanker Isaac Troughton crossed under the posts after centre Callum Corbett breached the defence and unloaded.

Hooker Charlie Watts drove the ball straight through the uprights to give the home side a 7-0 lead.

The visitors hit back and scored in the corner after a move out wide.

Minutes later, Watts stepped up again to thump a penalty over and to put his team 10-5 up.

Winger Niles Prior was on the end of a flowing passage of play to extend the points advantage yet further.

The flyer still had plenty to do but managed to cross the whitewash in the corner to post a 15-5 half time lead.

The teams continued the arm wrestle until Troughton burst through to notch his second try.

The number seven broke the line 40 yards out and raced under the sticks. Watt stepped up to add the two to make the score 22-5.

Leicester Forest East refused to lie down and continued to compete fiercely.

But a clever chip through from fly half Alex Waycott bounced into the waiting arms of winger Ben Shepherd. The speedster glided over for another Oakham try.

Watt coolly landed the conversion from an unsympathetic angle to complete the scoring at 29-5.

Oakham go on to play Syston in the final who they beat in last year’s final 19-10.
