Stamford Vets 24 Market Harborough Vets 12

Harborough struck first but Stamford’s forwards responded, allowing Toby Lindley to bulldoze over the line. Steve Roberts converted.

A deft sidestep and cleverly delayed pass by Nige Stanford gave Peter Gilman a clear run-in, and again Roberts added the extras.

After the break, Brian Lonslow intercepted a pass and supported by Andy Kendall, ran 60 yards down the touchline to score.

Stamford’s Ali Hands scored in the corner to take the score to 24-7.

But still Harborough refused to give up. After being stopped on Stamford’s five yard line they quickly passed the ball wide from the breakdown to score on the far side.

Nevertheless, Stamford saw out a comfortable victory.
