The newly-formed Bourne and Deeping Colts Barbarians lost 27-0 in their first fixture at Milking Nook Drove on Sunday in very windy conditions against Kesteven.
Despite dominating possession for long spells, the Barbarians were unable to put any points on the board against a well-drilled Kesteven side and were three tries down at half-time with a further two scores conceded in the second half.
The colts lacked cohesion in attack, with the players not even having trained together as a unit since their formation in late January because of bad weather.
Kesteven, on the other hand, were a team that have been together a long time and it showed. As the game went on, the home side looked stronger as the players gained familiarity with team-mates.
The team’s coaches said they were confident the side will quickly improve after more training sessions together.
Bourne and Deeping Colts are a combined team from both clubs, consisting of players from Under-17 to Under-19.
New players are always welcome to train on Thursdays with matches on Sundays. Details on brufc.net.
