Reds win fair play award in SpainX
BOURNE Town under 11s won the fair play trophy at the 28-team Copa Marbella tournament in Spain during the Easter holidays.
The international youth football festival featured 72 matches over three evenings with teams entering from Scotland, England, Ireland and Gibraltar as well as from Spain.
The local teams included some of the very best clubs on the Costa-Del-Sol and playing in the under 12s competition, the Bourne boys knew they would be up against tough opposition.
In their first match they lost to Albion Boys 6-0, no disgrace bearing in mind they are a feeder team for the professional Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen.
The second match against Costa Unida, resulted in a 7-0 defeat. However, the boys never let their heads drop, and they scored twice as they lost 4-2 in their third match against Nueva Andalucia.
Tyler Wilkinson and Patrick Bishell capped a good team performance, with the Reds' goals.
In their fourth match out of five, the Reds secured a great victory, running out 2-1 winners against FC Lions a team from Gibraltar.
Bishell scored the opening goal and Tom Login secured victory with a clinical late strike.
The Reds final match was a play-off against San Pedro for fifth place in a pool of eight but despite a hardworking performance, San Pedro ran out 5-1 winners with Sol Rayment calmly finishing for the consolation goal.
The squad attended the presentation evening where all players received a trophy for participation in the competition. A bonus for the Reds was being awarded the Fair Play trophy for their good conduct over the five matches.
It was a great achievement which reflected the spirit within the squad over the whole week.
The management team of Steve Bills and Rick Bishell thanked the children, parents and all sponsors who supported this trip.
Coach Steve Bishell said: "All are very much appreciated and the memories will certainly stay for a long time."
Sponsors included parents, BTJFC committee, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, Premier Produce, B+K Taxis, Safeguard Hire Services, Polysafe Level Crossing Systems, Burtons of Bourne, Marlow Gardner and Cooke, Healthguard Hygiene Services, The Bourne Lions, BGL Group, The Fitzwilliam Hospital, Rainbow Superstore (Bourne) and Shaws Coaches of Maxey.
