Adams makes a flying start

DEEPING darts legend Martin Adams is due to play former finalist Tony O’Shea in the quarter-finals of the World Professional Darts Championships at Lakeside this evening.

Defending champion and two-time winner of the competition, Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams charged into the last eight with a masterclass in darts beating Gary Stone 4-0 in the last 16.

It took Adams, the joint favourite, 44-minutes to dismiss the playoff qualifier.

Adams is bidding to equal Eric Bristow’s three-in-a-row success achieved between 1984-86, the only player to record three successive title wins in the championship.

The top seed cruised through the opening two rounds without dropping a set but was bracing himself for a far tougher against O’Shea.

Wolfie said: “I have a good record against Tony and I’ll be the favourite, but I’m predicting a tight game against a man who is playing really well.

“Tony is a terrific thrower who can really get on a roll in a game. Breaking his throw is far from easy but it’s something I’ll need to do to get through.”
