Munton feels positive
WAKES boss Darren Munton was pleased with his side's first performance since he took over at the helm, despite losing 4-2 to rivals Deeping Rangers on Tuesday evening.
In a new-look side, under reconstruction since Bourne's relegation from the UCL Premier Division in May, Keith Gray was the only regular player from last season to feature.
Several of the reserves managed by Munton last season made the step up including John Currall who was on the scoresheet along with a summer signing from Peterborough and District League champions Rutland Rangers, Stu Lambie.
Mark Paul made a scoring return with Scott Musgrove, Danny Marlow and an own goal completing Rangers' tally.
"There were a lot of positive points we can take away," said Munton, who also fielded another former Rutland Ranger, Jamie Forbes.
He added: "Six or seven of the players were in last year's reserves and we had a few players missing."
Bourne face another premier division side, Blackstones at the Abbey Lawn on Saturday.
The Wakes' first league opposition will be ON Chenecks on August 21 at the Abbey Lawn.
Deeping Rangers, who finished last season in fourth in the UCL Premier, begin their campaign against Rothwell Corinthians on August 7.
Former Rangers striker Ash Stevens struck twice against his old club last Friday when Wisbech Town beat Deeping 2-0 in a friendly.
Rangers boss Pat Rayment, who was without ten regulars, isn't too fussed by the defeat.
He said: "We had a young side and did OK. I'm happy with how we're shaping up. Ash did what he used to do for us and we wish him well."
Deeping host Stamford tomorrow (3pm) before another home friendly with Spalding on Tuesday (July 27, 7.45pm).
