It was a busy week for the athletes of Rutland’s triathlon club with changes at the top of the club championship and two fearless super women taking on the Superhero.
Saya Sheridan from Rutland Running and Tri Club and Mary Hardwick of Inspire 2 Tri, based in Manton in Rutland, were the third ladies team home in the Norfolk Superhero race on Saturday.
The women completed a 1 mile swim, 3 mile kayak, 46 mile bike ride and 8 mile beach run. Their team was called Tri Belles.
The last mile of the challenging run was through marsh land and was very muddy.
Mary lost her trainers in the mud and did the last half a mile in her socks while Saya carried her trainers, the finishing line was a wade through the estuary and up the wooden steps to the Staithe.
Teams were made up of two people and you must stick together for the whole event.
Nearer to home Martin and Andrea Gordon-Kerr both competed in the Dambuster Triathlon held last Saturday at Rutland Water.
Andrea finished in 3: 34.58 finishing 30th in her age category. Martin finished in a new PB time of 2:59.9 finishing 93rd in his age category.
The Beacon Hill Solstice Race on Friday last week was the latest Club Championship race.
Eight Rutland Running and Tri Club members turned up on a gorgeous summer’s evening to run a very pretty but challenging 5 mile off-road course which included two different 100m ascents of Beacon Hill.
Andrew Henderson was first club member home in a fantastic 7th position overall in the race.
John McCrone was running well in spite of recovering from a slight hamstring injury but Richard Evans managed to finish strongly after the second hill climb to catch and overtake John at the top of the hill with the final mile of descent to go.
Sean McAuliffe is also nursing an injury and despite starting strongly dropped behind David Summers after the second hill climb. David Evans finished his first championship race just ahead of Sue Barrow who ran extremely well and Dawn Morris crossed the line in a very creditable time.
The results from the race and after age grading the order of merit is:
Andrew Henderson: 1st male in 32:34, David Summers: 2nd male in 39:21, Richard Evans: 3rd male in 37:14, John McCrone: 4th male in 37:20, Sean McAuliffe: 5th male in 41:09, David Evans: 6th male in 44:56. Sue Barrow: 1st female in 45:03, Dawn Morris: 2nd female in 52:54
After this event the Rutland Running and Tri Club Championship competition has a new leader thanks to Dawn Morris’s participation in four out of the six races held so far.
John McCrone has completed six scoring races and heads up the men’s championship but David Summers and Richard Evans are threatening just behind him in the standings.
