Toft Golf Club have reached a County Final in the Bramley Trophy competition.

This involves all the clubs in the county fielding their best three players in match play. After winning in the previous three rounds, Toft met Belton Park in the last game to decide the finalists.

Toft, playing at home, were represented by Scott Freer, Mick Bentley and James Dair. Scott, playing first, had a close 2&1 win. Mick’s game was equally close but he went down by 2 holes. This left James to seal the win, which he did by the enormous margin, in that standard of golf, of 7&6.

The final is at Seacroft Golf Club on Saturday, August 23, when the Toft players will be looking for a good travelling support.

l June and July have been busy times for Toft ladies as they have been involved in a mixture of competitions to test their stamina and skills.

In the 6th round of the national Mail On Sunday match away to Cosby Golf Club, the Toft team faced an uphill struggle playing on an unfamiliar tricky course with well bunkered greens needing accuracy of shot, heavy rain on the day, and opponents who included the reigning County champion playing off a handicap of 4. Needless to say theToft ladies battled through it and although the home team finished up the winners by 3-2 the visitors made it hard for them. Alison Ravenhill lost 3&1, Lorraine Robinson lost 6&5 against Cosby’s star player, Helen Roscoe lost 5&4 leaving team captain Mandy Lees and Cathy Lee to provide the two success stories forToft both winning 3&2.

Back at home the Ladies Past Captains’ Trophy saw five keen players go head to head. All contestants ended up winning a prize of some sort with Mairead Scott wining on 35 points, one ahead of Helen Roscoe in second spot.

Margaret Dair and Sandra Wildmore each received a prize donated by Sandra Allen, another past captain, for the best front and back scores and Lorraine Robinson was awarded a consolation prize for trying hard and winning too many other competitions.

l The ever popular Ladies versus Seniors match proved as enjoyable as ever despite the now predictable outcome of a win for the men this time by 5-1.

A lovely summer’s day and halfway house refreshments provided by Lady Captain Judith Childs and Seniors’ Captain Bob Gore served by Bee McKechnie and Marie Davenport added to the fun and friendship of the occasion.
