Thousands donated by Stoke Rochford Golf Club captain

Stoke Rochford Seniors Winter Warmers competition was a Texas Scramble with handicap by age.

The winners with 69 (net 65) on countback were Peter Gill, Barry Coop and John Wright, second also 69 (net 65) were Charles Donnison, Ernie Armstrong and Colin Howett, with Don Werner, Ron Kent and Keith Eddy third with 71 (net 66) on countback.

Peter, the outgoing Stoke Rochford captain, handed over the reins to new captain Gary Skerritt at the club’s annual meeting on Wednesday last week.

Wishing Gary all the best for his year, Peter presented him with his club sweater and captain’s tie. Gary also had a surprise gift for Peter which was a handmade lamp on a nautical theme.

Gary also announced that his chosen charity for 2014 will be Prostate Cancer UK.

The evening had begun with Peter presenting a cheque for £6,381.57 to The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.

With other donations during the year and gift aid, a final total of £8,942.57 was raised.

Peter took the opportunity to thank club members and people outside the club for their outstanding support throughout the year.
