A host of Stamford Striders were in action across the UK on Sunday.

First to get going were five Striders up in Manchester as they joined thousands of runners taking on the marathon.

Martin Candish led the way for the club, finishing in 3:23:04, followed by four marathon debutants: Andy Wade, who finished 62nd in his category V50 in a time of 3.32.43; Ed Fancourt (3:34:06); Simon Marvel (4:34:06) and Helen Morris, (5:29:01).

While they were working their way around the 26.2-mile course, several others were starting out their own marathon down in Brighton. Kieran Nally completed the race in 4:32:34 just a week before he takes on the London Marathon. While Charlotte Hayhurst, who has been training with the Striders, finished in 4:13:38.

Meanwhile, 13 Striders made the slightly shorter trip to Lincoln to take part in the 10k race.

Simon Fell was first home for the club, first V35 and 20th overall in a field of 4,374 runners, finishing in a time of 35:33.

There were personal bests for Nick Wells who smashed his previous 10k PB demon of 40 minutes with a 38:41 which put him over the finishing line in 81st place while Celina Silver chipped a minute off her previous best in 52:51.

Other Striders who enjoyed the run finishing in the cathedral precinct were: Jim Morris, 36th in 36:27; Mark Popple, 54th in 37:53; Dave Aust (41:16); Chris Lockett (42:26); Nicholas Smith (45:42); Liz Fell (46:12); Barry Daff (47:36); Mike Freeman (54:20); John MacKinnon (52:27) and Vanessa MacKinnon (53:22).
