On a morning which started with confusion over the tee off time, the day finished extremely well for Rutland Water Seniors in their match versus North Luffenham.
Tony Wright and Bob Sachs led the way, and the ever cool Captain Wright was not affected by the delayed start as he parred the first four holes to put the home team off to a great start.
A beautiful day with a light breeze saw the Rutland Seniors finish with a fantastic 6 – 0 victory.
Individual scores were Tony Wright and Bob Sachs who won 4 & 2, Dave Mee and Tony Purkis won 1 up, Jimi Ross and Dave Saunders won 4 & 3, Barry Read and Mike Rook won 1 up, John Sansome and Paul Kirk won 4 & 3 and Alan Edmunds and Roger Oakes won 7 & 6.
l Senior Jimi Ross won the July midweek Stableford with a score of 42 points in his best performance of the year.
Jimi, who is the resident DJ and Elvis impersonator for club functions, has turned his poor season around to once again see his handicap return to 17.
Afterwards Ross said: “Hopefully this time my form is going to stay for more than just a day.”
Rick Woolmer was second with 39 points and John Sansome third with 38 points.
l In Saturday’s monthly Stableford it was Andy Dennis who came out on top with 39 points, one ahead of Stephen O’Brien in second with 38 points and Mike Donaldson third on 37.
Izzy Smeaton won the ladies July medal with a net 73, which included pars at the difficult 6th and 12th holes, managing to skilfully avoid the water hazards on both.
Izzy has been cut an unbelievable five shots this year, down from 36 to her new 31 handicap and is another example of how well the ladies section is progressing at the golf club.
