Oakham picked up their first win of the Leicestershire and Rutland League Division Two season after a tie in their opening game of 2015.

On Saturday they beat Shepshed Town by 96 runs to record a maximum 30 point victory.

Shepshed won the toss and put Oakham in to bat. Opener Richard Martin could only make eight runs but his partner Calvin Flowers struck 40 before being caught by Craig White off the bowling of Matt Johns.

Bhavin Shukla was the mainstay of the innings, striking 79 runs, getting Oakham to 217-5.

Shepshed captain White got them off to a great start with their reply, hitting 48 before losing his wicket to Calvin Flowers who took five in total.

The rest of the Shepshed line-up could not offer much help to their skipper and they were all out for 121.

However it was a different story on Sunday as Oakham suffered defeat in the Rutland League Division Two to Castor & Ailsworth.

Castor opened the batting after winning the toss and made 199-5 .

Matt Spinks at number five in their line-up put in a winning performance with 56*, ably supported by his middle order team mates Reece Smith (38) and Ryan Evans (43).

The wickets were shared between the Oakham attack who used seven different bowlers during the 45 overs. Rory Brown was the pick of the bunch with 2-17.

Oakham’s response when they batted was stuttering. Flowers, who is so often a game winner, went for 12 and then Dave Ramshaw and Sean Cowley both went for ducks.

All three wickets fell to the bowling of Stuart Dockerill who finished with 4-27.

Top scorer was Rory Brown on 29 as four players got into the twenties but no one kicked on to make the big score required, getting bowled out for 139.
